Private Production

Full Chain:
The ATLAS Twiki WorkBook gives good examples for
running the Full Chain simulation production from event generation to reconstruction producing AOD :

Here is a version of the script fullchain_10.0.3.bash adapted to version 10.0.3 and the installation on etppc43.

Fast Simulation:
Full simulation is extremely CPU intensive. In general one uses either existing samples from organized productions or one runs ATLFAST, the smear-mode version of the ATLAS detector simulation. Again the workbook description:

Event generation:
Starting point for simulation is the event generation using Monte Carlo generators

the fullchain_10.0.3.bash example script sets up Z-->ee production

the pythia generator settings are specified via the Pythia.PythiaCommand property:

Exercises:

Produce ~1000 Z-->ee events with ATLFAST

Perform interactive Python-Analysis of the produced AOD, i.e. plot p_T spectra, print out invariant mass, etc.

Hint: Atlfast AOD Objects are in an different collection, e.g. the electrons: mc=PyParticleTools.getParticleBases('AtlfastElectronCollection')

Repeat with ~1000 Z-->µµ events: ...('AtlfastMuonElectronCollection')

Produce Higgs-->µµµµ events with mH=190 GeV
