Protected Quantum States in Topological Insulators and Quantum Wires

This research addresses the theory of 1D states which are protected from back-scattering by physical symmetries. Corresponding realistic physical systems range from Topological Insulators to magnetically doped quantum wires. Problems can be formulated at different levels of complexity (Bachelor or Master). The student project can be started immediately and it can include

    - protection of transport in a finite wire with certain contacts,

    - many-body effects and robustness of the symmetry protection,

    - anionic excitation in magnetically doped quantum wires,

    - protected transport in Bi nanowires.

Theoretical results will be intensively discussed with several experimental groups.
