Methods of QFT in Condensed Matter Physics

TMP-TA4, WiSe-2013/14 - Outline

Lecturer: Dr. Oleg Yevtushenko,    Tutor: Dennis Schimmel

Lectures and tutorials will embrace physics of many-body systems (both clean and disordered) and basic modern methods allowing one to develop a theory of such systems beyond the trivial perturbation theory.

Methods:

·        Green’s functions – from basic properties and diagrammatics to FT representations;

·        Techniques for equilibrium (Matsubara approach) and non-equilibrium (Keldysh approach) systems;

·        Bosonisation;

·        Basics of the nonlinear σ-model.

Physical systems:

·        Low-dimensional interacting systems and quantum liquids;

·        Disordered mesoscopic systems with and without interactions;

·        Critical systems, superconductors.
