With the intense study of a Martial Art like Taekwon Do you could reach
many goals. Often beginners talk about self defense and fitness as their
goals. Both requires regular and intense practice. After having pracctised a
Martial Art for a long time it is often not necessary to use the MA for
self defense anymore. The fitness aspect will be a natural part of the life.
Beyond it, the character of the Martial Art student develops. Of course
this needs guidance through an instructor who has gone this way already.
What could be reached through Taekwon Do:
- Physical Aspects
- Flexibility
- Power
- Endurance (In addition Mountain Hiking and/or Swimming is recommendable)
- Coordination and Balance
- Understanding of one's Body. Most important aspect of this is to be
able to know the signals of one's body.
- Character Aspects
- Self Assurance
- Recognize one's borders
- Respecting other people, regardless of their race, colour or sex.
- Humility
- Inner Peace (Keep your balance)
General Choi Hong Hi, who founded Taekwon Do says, that those who practice
Taekwon Do should have the following objectives:
- Ye Ui - Courtesy
- Yom Chi - Integrity
- In Nae - Perseverance
- Guk Gi - Self Discipline and Self Control
- Beakjul Boolgool - Indomitable Spirit
