We recommend to go to "Tegernsee" by train and then to continue to Ringberg Castle by taxi. The trains leave from Munich central station ("Hauptbahnhof") and are called BOB (for "Bayerische Oberlandbahn"). The trains usually leave from platforms 33 or 34, see the map below. You can buy the tickets for the BOB trains at the BOB vending office close to those platforms. The timetable of the BOB can be found here (as you will see the train ride between Munich and Tegernsee takes about 1 hour). After arriving at the final stop "Tegernsee", please take a taxi to Ringberg Castle. If you do not see a taxi waiting at the train station, you could call Taxi Kaufmann: + 49 - (0)8022 - 5555. Further information can be found under the travel instructions on the webpage of Ringberg Castle.
From munich airport there are two different S-Bahn lines (S1and S8) which go to the central railway station ("Hauptbahnhof") and need both about 50 minutes to arrive there. You can use different tickets:
one way single ticket for four zones ("4 Zonen") | for one person | 10.40 Euro |
day ticket for four zones ("4 Zonen") | for one person | 11.70 Euro |
day ticket "Partner-Ticket-Gesamtnetz" | for two persons | 21.30 Euro |
There will be a shuttle bus to the castle on sunday evening leaving
at 5pm from the Max-Planck-Institute for Physcis in Munich (MPP). You
can find instructions
how to get to the MPP here.
Note that there is a limited number of seats (8). Thus, in case you
prefer to go by shuttle, please let us know as soon as possible (by
sending an email to stringberg14@physik.lmu.de),
including also the arrival time of your plane or train.
If you are coming by car, please consult the travel instructions on the webpage of Ringberg Castle.
