Directions from the train station

There are different ways to reach the hotel and the ASC from the train station. In the following you will find the easiest one.

Follow the S-Bahn signs

You will need to go to “Marienplatz” and all S-Bahn lines are going there from the main train station. You just have to make sure to take the right direction. Marienplatz is already signed out, but it would also be safe to follow signs to “Ostbahnhof”.

Before you enter the S-Bahn stop, you should buy a ticket. The vending machines look like this:

and they are located, for instance, in the entrance hall of the train station.

Here is a closeup of the choices you have:

If you just want to go to the hotel or the conference venue and do not need to take any public transportation later that day, the best choice would be the button “Einzelfahrtkarte 1 Zone”, i.e. the first from above in the left column. This costs 2.30 Euros and allows you to travel one way from the train station to everywhere in the inner region of Munich (the white region on the map that you can partly see in the left part of the picture above; a whole map can be downloaded from the public transportation site). If you will have to travel more than once on the same day, it is more convenient to buy a daily ticket. For the inner region (“Innenraum”, which is all you will need, unless you have to go to the airport), the daily pass is in the first yeollow row of the vending machine. It comes in two versions: Using the left column you can buy a single ticket and using the right column you can buy a group ticket (“Partner-Tageskarte”) for up to 5 adults.

Once you have the ticket, do not forget to validate it in one of the little machines at the entrance to the platforms (just before the escalators). In this picture you see an example taken at the airport (look for the little blue machines next to the entrance):

You should get off at “Marienplatz” and then follow the U-Bahn signs. An example would look like this:

You can take either U3 (in the direction “Olympiazentrum” or “Olympiaeinkaufszentrum”) or U6 (in the direction “Garching-Forschungszentrum” or “Fröttmaning”). It is also safe to follow the signs for “Arena” as on the picture above, as the soccer stadium is at Fröttmaning. You should get off at either “Odeonsplatz” or “Universität” and then walk a few minutes (along Ludwigstraße and Theresienstraße) to the hotel or the institute, following the map with the hotel and the ASC.

See you soon!
